When you were growing up and going to school and university,

did you receive a deliberate and explicit education in

how to communicate well with others

and build effective and fulfilling interpersonal relationships?

I don’t know of anyone, anywhere, who did.

Yet we humans are genetically designed to need relationships with others. We flourish when we have good relationships. We deteriorate when we are disconnected.

The U.S.A Surgeon General has declared “a public health crisis of loneliness, isolation, and lack of connection”. He said:

“Approximately half of U.S. adults reported experiencing measurable levels of loneliness. Disconnection fundamentally affects our mental, physical, and societal health. Loneliness and isolation increase your

risk of developing mental health challenges. Lacking connection can increase the risk for premature

death to levels comparable to smoking daily.” - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 3 May

2023.

Although this is crucial, we tend to muddle along, unconsciously copying whatever

models of communication and relationship we have been exposed to – whether these are good models or not.

And when you have top 2% IQ or any other neurodiversity you often find this even harder, because you’re different from the majority in ways that are little recognised or understood.

The Intelligent Relationships programme fills this gap: it equips you with expert, up-to-date relational knowledge, associated personal insights, and practical skills. Together these give you a new awareness of self and others, the confidence to communicate well, and an understanding of how relationships work. This empowers you to connect with others, and successfully establish and sustain good relationships.

The programme is designed and run by Dr Sonja Falck – psychotherapist, executive coach, university lecturer, and author of three books on intelligence and relationships. She has presented her work in the UK, the USA, and the Netherlands.

What is the Intelligent Relationships programme?

It’s an online learning and mentoring programme for adults that provides an intellectually stimulating and practically empowering education in interpersonal communication and relationships.

Does it focus on a specific type of relationship?

You get to choose which version of the programme you wish to join. Each version covers the essential

knowledge and skills needed to gain interpersonal effectiveness, but you select which one is best suited to your needs and interests out of the following: General, Friendship, Family, Romantic, Career. (See more information

in the yellow box below.)

What does it involve?

It’s a 9-week programme. Everything takes place online. It provides:

  • Independent online learning resources and activities including videos to watch, worksheets, and practical exercises to try out in your day-to-day life.

  • Mentoring: a mix of one-to-one and group calls on Zoom which you book in at times that suit you. In the one-to-one calls we work on your personal goals. In the group calls you meet others on the programme and participate in structured Conversation Activities together, followed by analysis. This supports you to practise the skills you are learning, and to give and receive feedback with others. These engaging activities are conducted with expert professional facilitation in an environment of safety and acceptance. You are encouraged to experiment, make mistakes, learn, and enjoy. Here is what previous participants have said about these calls:

  • Enrolment in an online Community group where you can interact with others in your

    cohort.

What is the time commitment?

A total of 3-5 hours per week. Plus you are encouraged to take what you learn on the programme and start implementing it during your day-to-day interactions with others. The programme is designed so you can work on it in segments during the week, fitting it around your other commitments.

What do I do next if I’m interested in the Intelligent Relationships programme?

We look forward to meeting you!

Which version of the programme is best for me?

Each version covers the essential knowledge and skills needed to gain interpersonal effectiveness, but you can choose which of the following versions you would like to join:

General – Communication and relationships in general, which also outlines main points about various types of interpersonal relationship (family, friendship, romantic, workplace) and the differences between them.

Friendship – Includes an in-depth focus on building and sustaining satisfying friendships in your life. This is for you if you have no friendships in your life and want to establish a new friendship, or if you’re struggling in an existing friendship, or if you want to deepen and strengthen your friendships.

Romantic – Includes an in-depth focus on securing an intimate relationship with a partner. This is for you if you are seeking to establish a new romantic relationship, or if you are in an existing romantic relationship you wish to enhance, or if you’re dealing with a breakup and you want to explore the possibility of salvaging that relationship or prepare yourself for a future, better relationship.

Family – Includes an in-depth focus on family relationships. You might wish to focus on improving a relationship with a parent, a child, a sibling, or other relative. Or you might wish to understand family dynamics in general so you can interact better with your family (or your partner’s family).

Career – Includes an in-depth focus on workplace relationships. This is for you if you would like to improve your workplace communication in general, or build or better understand a specific

workplace relationship, or if you would like to advance how you communicate at work to equip you to take up a new career role – starting a new job, or becoming a leader, or becoming an entrepreneur.

Another alternative is to do the General version of the programme first, and after that you can add on further lessons that focus more in-depth on specific kinds of relationships.
